Age Calculator: Gregorian and Hijri Age
Enter your date of birth in either calendar to see your exact age in years, months and days, in both the Gregorian and the Islamic (Hijri) calendar.
Example: someone born on 20 June 1990
36 years, 3 months and 17 days
In Hijri years: 37 years and 5 months
- Total
- 13,258 days (1,894 weeks)
- Born on
- Wednesday, 20 June 1990
- Hijri date of birth
- 26 Dhu al-Qa'dah 1410 AH
- Next birthday
- 20 June 2027, in 256 days
- Next Hijri birthday
- 26 Dhu al-Qa'dah 1448 AH (3 May 2027), in 208 days
Example: working out an age step by step
Take someone born on 20 June 1990, counting up to today, 7 October 2026:
- Whole years: 20 June 1990 to 20 June 2026 = 36 years.
- Whole months after that: 20 June 2026 to 20 September 2026 = 3 months.
- Remaining days: 20 September 2026 to 7 October 2026 = 17 days.
So the age is 36 years, 3 months and 17 days, the same method the calculator uses for any date you enter.
Your age in the Islamic calendar
The result also shows your age in Hijri years, worked out the same way but with the month lengths of the Umm al-Qura calendar (29 or 30 days). Because the Islamic year is about 11 days shorter, your Hijri age gains a full year roughly every 32.6 years: at 33 in Gregorian years you are about 34 in Hijri years.
When a day doesn’t exist in a month
If you were born on the 31st and the month being counted has fewer days, that month is complete on its last day. From 31 January to 28 February in a common year is one whole month. This avoids negative days and never loses one.
Method and source
Ages are counted in whole years, then whole months from the date of birth, then the remaining days. The Hijri age uses the same method with Umm al-Qura month lengths, after converting both dates with the table that we test against the official one. The day is counted in Riyadh time. Common questions
How do I calculate my exact age?
Enter your date of birth and press “Calculate age”. The calculator counts the whole years since your birthday, then the whole months after that, then the remaining days, and shows the result in both the Gregorian and the Hijri calendar.
How old am I in Hijri years?
The result shows your Hijri age under the Gregorian one, together with your Hijri date of birth and your next Hijri birthday. Your Hijri age is always a little higher than your Gregorian age.
Why is my Hijri age higher than my Gregorian age?
A Hijri year has 354 or 355 days, about 11 fewer than a Gregorian year, so more Hijri years fit into the same lifetime. The difference grows by one full year about every 32.6 years.
Can I calculate my age on a specific date?
Yes. Open “Work out the age on another date” and pick the date, for example an application deadline. You can enter it in either calendar.
I was born on 29 February. When is my birthday in other years?
In common years the calculator counts your birthday on 28 February. Some organisations use 1 March instead, so check if the exact date matters for a form.
Can I enter my date of birth in Hijri?
Yes. Choose “Hijri” above the date of birth fields. If you have already typed a Gregorian date, it is converted when you switch.
