Example: reading the result
1 Ramadan 1448 AH is Monday, 8 February 2027 on the Umm al-Qura calendar, and Ramadan 1448 has 29 days in the table.
That is the calculated date. The start of Ramadan is announced officially after the crescent is sought on the evening of 29 Sha'ban, so the first day may move by one. Other dates, such as a document's expiry or a contract date, follow the table as it is.
A quick estimate without a converter
To find the Gregorian year roughly, multiply the Hijri year by 0.97 and add 621.6. For example 1448 × 0.970 + 621.6 ≈ 2026.5, so 1448 AH runs from mid-2026 into 2027. The estimate is good for the year only; use the converter for the exact day.
Why you can’t just add 622 years
A Hijri year is about 11 days shorter than a Gregorian year, so the gap between the two calendars changes every year. That is also why Ramadan moves about 11 days earlier each year and comes back to the same season after roughly 33 years.
Method and source
Dates are converted with the Umm al-Qura table built into the ICU calendar library that browsers use, and tested automatically against the official table published by the Umm al-Qura calendar for every month of 1440–1450 AH: the day each month starts and its length. How we calculate dates.
Common questions
How do I convert a Hijri date to a Gregorian date?
Choose the Hijri day and month, type the year and press “Convert to Gregorian”. You get the Gregorian date with its weekday and the length of that Hijri month, and you can copy a link that opens the same result.
What is 1 Ramadan 1448 in the Gregorian calendar?
Monday, 8 February 2027 on the Umm al-Qura calendar. The official start of Ramadan is announced after the crescent is sought, so it can differ by a day.
Why do different converters give different dates?
Some use the tabular (arithmetical) Islamic calendar, which alternates 30- and 29-day months by rule, or another country’s calculation. This converter uses Umm al-Qura, the calendar Saudi Arabia uses for official dates, so results can differ by a day around the start or end of a month.
Is the Umm al-Qura calendar official in Saudi Arabia?
Yes. Government dates follow it. The start of Ramadan, Shawwal and Dhu al-Hijjah is still announced after the moon sighting and can differ from the calendar by a day.
How do I convert the Hijri date on my iqama or another Saudi document?
Enter the Hijri date exactly as printed (day, month, year) and convert it. The result is the Gregorian day that date falls on in the Umm al-Qura calendar, which is the one Saudi government documents use.
What is 1 Muharram 1449 in the Gregorian calendar?
Sunday, 6 June 2027, the first day of the Islamic year 1449 AH.
